A new direction for basicdc!
2011-04-16
Don't let the photo-centric look of the new site fool you... Basic is still a web development studio. Besides running ScoringLive, we've kept busy over the last year or so building a number of web-based software applications, as well as our fair share of "regular" sites, with more on the queue.
It is quite clear however, that our focus has shifted considerably. Been spending much more time behind the viewfinder than ever. Pretty much to the point that we've begun taking on quite a number of photo-specific requests, something that has... [ read more ]ScoringLive ready to turn corner

When I started ScoringLive back in 2008 (or was it earlier than that?), I had hoped that it would expand and evolve into something pretty large scale. Now, only 2 years of dev later, SL is getting ready to launch our fifth and sixth "sub-sites," as baseball rolls out early next week, with softball to follow close behind.
Funny to see how an idea that started with just hoping to get some semblance of scores and win-loss record for Damien Memorial School has expanded to encompass not only the regular season for the ILH and OIA... [ read more ]
Geolocation is the way to g(e)o??
2010-02-19
I blame it on Tyson, but I guess in a good way. First some back story.Even after I got my iPhone a couple of weeks back, and downloaded a bunch of the requisite apps, I was a little on the fence about some of the geolocation-powered offerings out there, Gowalla and Foursquare the most notable of them. So I pretty much didn't bother with any of it.
That changed last week thanks to an over-lunch catch-up with the above-named coder. Based on his suggestion that I really... [ read more ]
Version 10 going live!
2010-02-02
I had hoped to have had the new site launched early this week, but wanted to get a little more content built and structured before going live. So my apologies for the delay.Have to say that I am very pleased with how version 10 turned out. Very big doomo to my "focus group" peeps for some helpful suggestions that helped tweak the site to the current iteration.
Still need to add on a bunch of categories to the portfolio and fill them (as best as can) with stuff. Also trying... [ read more ]
New Year's Resolution?
2010-01-10
I guess I had two "for-sure" goals in mind for Basic in 2010. The first, starting (and maintaining) a blog, and second, redesigning basicdc.com, which hasn't seen any major upgrades in nearly three years. The easy (and longer) way would be to just get a blog up and running and tackle the design of a new site later, but doing a link through to a vanilla blog just wouldn't do. And since a redesign was on the agenda anyway...I figured might as well kill two birds with one stone (so to speak).... [ read more ]
